OBJECTIVE: Making simple blinkies, using selections.
Get the selections here:
Tools Needed:
Paint Shop Pro 7
Step 1
Go to File/New, set your new graphic to 150 X 20, 16 million colors, with transparent background.
In Styles, set your stroke (foreground) to the color that you are going to use for your background. I used #ffffff (white).

Flood fill your graphic.
*SAVE*
Step 2
Go to Selections/Select All
Then, Selections/Modify/Contract, and set it to 2.
Click Ok

You can flood fill the middle section with another color if you want to, or, just leave it white.
*SAVE*
Step 3
Now Zoom in, a couple of times.
Go to Selections/Load from Disk. Find blinkie1.sel, click on it, then, go to Selections/Invert.
Before you flood Go to Layers/Add a New Raster Layer
and
Flood fill your squares with the color of your choice. I used #BE6E75
Selections/Select None
*SAVE*
Step 4
Add a new layer. Layers/New Raster Layer, then go to Selections/Load from Disk, and click on blinkie2.sel
Selections/Invert
Flood fill your squares with a different color,
I used #7BA58B
Selections/Select None
*SAVE*
Step 5
Add a new Layer. Layers/New Raster Layer.
Click on your text tool 
Click on your graphic, and set your text to size 8, choose a text, and,type in your message.
Selections, Select None...
Go to Window/Duplicate. Zoom and enlarge your second graphic.
Go to your Layer Palette, click on layer 2

Go to Selections/Load from Disk. Find blinkie1.sel, click on it, then, go to Selections/Invert.
Flood fill your squares with the color you used for your second set of squares. I used #7BA58B
Selections/Select None
*SAVE*
Step 6
Go to your Layer Palette, click on the layer 3
Go to Selections/Load from Disk. Find blinkie2.sel, click on it, then, go to Selections/Invert.
Flood fill your squares with the color you used for your first set of squares. I used #BE6E75
Selections/Select None
When you are satisfied with your two graphics, go to Layer/Merge/Merge Flatten. Merge both of them, and
*SAVE*
Now, onto animating the graphic.
